What is the SSAT at Home?

The SSAT at Home is a computer-based version of the SSAT taken on designated testing dates at pre-scheduled times. While thousands of families choose this option for the benefit of staying at home, they are also responsible for meeting all tech and room requirements.

Before registering, review the at-home criteria below to ensure it’s the best test mode for your child. You can also help them do their best with the Official SSAT Practice Materials.

Tech and Room

Requirements

You must complete the required system check on the same computer and in the same environment where you plan to take the test. Request an equity kit if you do not have access to the type of computer or internet required to take the SSAT at Home. It's also essential to begin downloading and installing the secure browser 30 minutes before the test’s scheduled start time.

Computer

A Windows or Mac laptop or desktop computer is required. Chromebooks, tablets, cell phones, and other devices are not permitted. Only one monitor or screen is allowed with a minimum resolution of 1366 x 768. 1920 x 1080 is recommended. Be aware that some antivirus software can cause performance issues, and only one student per household should test at a time.

There must be an internal or external webcam that can be moved to show the proctor the testing environment. Students using laptops with built-in webcams will be asked to move the laptop to show the entire room.

Speakers/Microphone

A parent or guardian can assist during the initial connection, room scan, and explanation of rules. Once these steps are completed, the parent/guardian must exit the room before testing begins but remain in an adjoining room to assist in the rare circumstance where an issue arises.
