Test Day

Standardized tests are a fact of life. Whether applying to private school, college, or graduate school, standardized tests pop up again and again, whether students like it or not.

Succeeding on these exams is as much about your mind being in the right place on test day as anything else.  After months of hard work, don't let self-defeating thoughts take you hostage on test day.  Approach test day with confidence, knowing that your preparation will pay off.

Here are a few reminders and tips to help optimize your performance on test day:

  • Review your registration information to make certain you know where and when to arrive.  This information is printed on your admission ticket.

  • If special accommodations are required, allow extra time for the test administrator to situate the tester in the appropriate testing area.

  • Bring your admission ticket and at least three # 2 pencils with erasers to use on the exam. Do NOT bring mechanical pencils or pens.  Bring a snack if you like, preferably in a clear plastic bag.

  • Wear comfortable shoes so that you can easily move your toes. Wiggling your toes during the exam will help you to stay focused and keep your blood flowing!

  • Eat a balanced breakfast that is satiating but not so filling that you feel sleepy. You can eat snacks during your break periods, so don't overeat at the breakfast table, but also don't skip out on the most important meal of the day!

  • Dress for success, but wear something comfortable. The better you look and feel, the more confident you will perform!

Relax, breathe, and succeed! We are all rooting for you!
