Taking the SSAT: Step-by-Step Instructions

Taking the SSAT: Step-by-Step Instructions

1. Select a test site and location.
Use the SSAT Test Center Search to find a convenient date and site among our eight "national test" administrations. If the national test dates are not convenient, you may consider testing with an educational consultant at a "flex test" administration (alternate registration process and deadlines apply).

2. Obtain necessary documentation.
If you require Special Testing Accommodations or a Sunday Test date (due to observance of a Saturday Sabbath), you should obtain the necessary documentation prior to registering. In addition, if you require a fee waiver, you should obtain one from a member school before submitting your registration form.

3. Select score recipients.
Most schools require that you send official score reports through SSAT, so be sure to note the school names and codes from the Score Recipient list before you register.

4. Register for the test.
You can register online quickly and easily, using a Visa, Mastercard or fee waiver. If the registration deadlines have passed, you can still register online for a standby seat at many locations.

5. Print your admission ticket and manage your SSAT account.
If you register online, you will create your SSAT account before you begin. After you register, you should print or save your Admission Ticket, which confirms your registration and includes your account login information. Manage your account to request changes to your test date/site, your personal information, or your score report recipients, or to print a replacement copy of your ticket.

6. Prepare for the test.
Familiarize yourself with the test format and try the sample questions on this website. If you would like to practice taking full-length sample tests, you can order the SSAT study guide, Preparing & Applying. Review the Test Day Checklist, and get a good night's sleep!

7. Review your score report.
A copy of your score report will be automatically mailed to your home within a few weeks of the test. You may choose to add schools to your score recipient list at any time following the test, using your SSAT Account Management.
